                    Louisa Hickman

Louisa has lived in McDuffie County most of her life and has always been fascinated with photography.  In the late 80s, with a new SLR camera, she began the journey as a serious amateur photographer.  Although she has attended a few workshops and classes, she is mostly self-taught, using the trial and error method.  As Louisa puts it , "One thing leads to another and over time you realize you might know what you are doing!"  In the early 90's, she set up a darkroom to develop and print black and white film, as she wanted to learn every aspect of the photography process.  Later that decade she discovered that using computer applications like Adobe, and Photoshop helped her create a virtual digital darkroom, and opened the door for her to create various projects.  Utilizing digital technology, Louisa has been able to master many areas of photography, including preservation and restoraton of old photographs and documents.  Louisa seems to be snapping pictures all the time.  She enjoys taking candid shots and has taken some amazing sports photos especially of her favorite subject:  Thomson High School Bulldog Football. She has started a project that she calls "MeeMaw Photography" that chronicles the growth of her four grandchildren. Her ever-evolving eye for that special photo opportunity has led her to the world of graphic design.  Louisa creates posters, collages, greeting cards and books.  Mrs. Hickman says, "Photography and graphic design is a hobby that challenges my creativity."  "It will never be boring, an adventure for a lifetime," she adds.  The Council is proud to have Louisa as a charter member.
