Marion "Bodie" Cummings
If McDuffie County has any local celebrities then Bodie would be one of them. Mr. Cummings is one of Thomson's "home-grown" talents. Bodie has been serious about his art for about 20 years now, and first found inspiration while in school here in Thomson. He would draw and paint murals on the banners that the Thomson Bulldogs crashed through at the introduction to each football game. Bodie credits his brother as being a major influence on his work as well. He and his brother would draw geographic maps to pass the time. Mostly a self-taught artist, with a few local college classes, Bodie finds inspiration for his work from everyday life, painting his style of "folk art" on almost anything from canvas to tin panels, glass and even rocks. He enjoys working with acrylic paints and does fanciful sketches with colored pencils. Mr. Cummings paints from his emotions and often uses subjects that reflect images of life in the deep South, both in the past and in the present. He has a loyal fan base and his work can be found all over the region. The Council is proud to have such a wonderful, talented artist as is Bodie Cummings.
